On November 30 Commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, Europe (SOCEUR) Major General Mark Schwartz emphasized excellent cooperation of the Lithuanian and the U.S. Special Operations Forces at a meeting with Lithuania's Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas and leadership of the Lithuanian Special Operation Forces.
"Lithuania is a staunch NATO ally, therefore a strong bond based on shared values and trust has been established with the E.S. Army and the U.S. Special Operation," Maj Gen M. Schwartz said. General emphasized that leadership of the U.S. Special Operations Forces saw the Lithuanian Special Operations Forces soldiers as particularly excellent partners.
According to General, bilateral information and experience sharing helps both, Lithuanian and American soldiers to be better prepared for ensuring security and stability in Lithuania as well as across Europe.
At the meeting Maj Gen M.Schwartz and leadership of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Lithuanian Special Operations Forces discussed relevant aspects of the security situation in the region, participation of Lithuanian and U.S. soldiers in multinational operations, bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the U.S. Special Operations Forces.
The presence of the U.S. Special Operations Forces in Lithuania and other Baltic states since 2014 is a demonstration of the firmness of the U.S. resolve to increase interoperability with national forces in order to act against any king of aggression against NATO and NATO allies.
