A joint training event of the Special Operations Forces and the Air Forces of Lithuania and NATO’s newest member Sweden was conducted at the Brigadier General Kazys Veverskis Training Area (Kazlų Rūda) to build readiness for air target identification and air-to-ground destruction. This was the first time the JAS 39 Gripen fighter aircraft of the Royal Air Force f the newly 32nd NATO member Sweden have delivered live fire in Lithuania.
Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC) of the Lithuanian and Swedish Special Operations Forces trained identifying enemy targets, call in air support and guide pilots to the targets via radio communication at a purpose-built ground target aviation range. The destruction part was done by the JAS 39 Gripen of the Royal Swedish Air Force that flew to Lithuania for this training event.
