August 1 to 8 military team of the Reconnaissance Company of the Motorised Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" took part in a long-range reconnaissance competition ERNA RAID 2011 in Estonia.
Estonia's teams proved to be the leaders of the event. Lithuanian team were the 19th to finish in the total record and the 4th among guest teams. Approximately 30 teams from Belgium, Estonia, Georgia, Finland, Switzerland and Lithuania met in the competition.
"It was a really difficult competition. Not all the participating teams managed to finish. It could be rated as 8-9 difficult in a 10 point scale," commented leader of Lithuania's team 1st Lt Artūras Ševeliovas after the event.
During four days of competition participants had to complete a spectrum of tasks while walking around 110 kilometres with 15 Kg weighing equipment, such as boat landing from vessels, reconnoitre enemy's object, destroy a fictitious enemy's command, surmount obstacle courses, complete medical tasks, etc. The tasks required both excellent and skill physical and tactical preparation and skills of a reconnaissance professional.
Lithuania has taken part in the annual reconnaissance competition for the third time. Last year MIB "Iron Wolf" team was recognised the strongest among the guests.
According to organisers, it is the longest t and the most demanding long-range reconnaissance competition in the world. The event is organised in Estonia on a yearly basis as a tribute to Estonian volunteer reconnaissance unit ERNA which operated during World War II in the Finnish Armed Forces in the Soviet-controlled territory of Estonia.
