Rapid Reaction Forces also takes an active role on 4th May during the course of Lithuanian Armed Forces national exercises ‘Lightning Strike 2017‘ in Marijampolė and Vilkaviškis.


According to the scenario of the exercises objects occupied by hostile forces will be assaulted in both cities. In the streets of Marijampolė city traffic will be restricted on 4th May from 9 to 12 h. At the dead end of Kaunas street joint operation of Lithuanian army Rapid Reaction Forces and Fire and Rescue Department services is expected. Traffic will be also restricted in the streets of Arminas and Vytautas in Marijampolė on 4th May from 13 to 20 h due to various military operations conducted there.


In the course of the exercises ‘Lightning Strike 2017‘ only simulation ammunition, smoke firing and explosive packages will be used. This equipment only simulates battle conditions, therefore in accordance with the precautions, this equipment is not life-threatening. Various injuries of soldiers and others will be imitated by applying special tools, therefore opened bone fractures, gunshot wounds etc. will look very realistic. Residents are asked to comply with safe distance from the action of the exercises, it is recommended not to go closer than 30 meters.
