August 22-23, United States European Command (EUCOM) Plans, Policy and Strategy delegation led by Deputy Director Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery visited Lithuania.
August 23, Rear Admiral M. Montgomery met the Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius, as well as representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and Armed Forces. During the visit Deputy Director also visited the Energy Security Centre, met with the Commander of the Public Security Service under the Ministry of Interior General of Inner Service Sergejus Madalovas.
The visit focused on further military cooperation priorities between Lithuania and the U.S. also ongoing projects were discussed.
U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations and Marine Commanders are subordinate to USEUCOM. Navya Admiral James G.Stavridis serves as current Commander, U.S. European Command as well as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
Rear Admiral Montgomery assumed his duties as Deputy Director, Plans, Policy and Strategy, United States European Command in August 2010. Montgomery most recently served as the Head of the Strategy Branch in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He was assigned to the National Security Council, White House from 1998 to 2000. Rar Admiral Montgomery graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received Bachelors and Masters degrees in History and Political Science. He subsequently attended Oxford University, where he earned a Masters degree in History. Rea Admiral Montgomery served in shipboard assignments in USS Bainbridge, USS Leftwich , USS Theodore Roosevelt, USS Elliot McCampbell and USS Nimitz.
