On 3-9 September, troops of Motorised Infantry Brigade (MIB) "Iron Wolf" and its units take part in headquarters exercise "Yellow Knight" conducted by Danish Division in Oksbul, Denmark. During the exercise, the troops of headquarters affiliated to the Danish Division are improving the fulfillment procedures of tactical tasks.
More than ninety troops from Denmark, Estonia and Latvia take part in the exercise along with Lithuania.
"It is a high-level exercise during which we have a great opportunity to extend our knowledge and improve skills while cooperating with international partners. The exercise will allow us to know if we planned operations properly during the exercise in Lithuania. This exercise is of primary importance because it develops our soldiers' professionalism as well as fosters the improvement of units at all management and leadership levels, " told the Commander of MIB "Iron Wolf" Colonel Valdemaras Rupšys.
The exercise "Yellow Knight" held in accordance with combat training plan of the Danish Division is of continuous character. While responding to simulated situations of military operations, troops are accomplishing previously scheduled tasks as well as planning the new ones on the international stage.
In the "Yellow Knight" exercise headquarters units are being trained to implement offensive operations planned during the headquarters exercise "Red Knight 2011" held on April 2011 in Rukla, Jonava district, Lithuania.
During the exercise "Red Knight 2011", headquarters of the Danish Division, Motorised Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" as well as Latvian and Estonian Land Forces' brigades were involved in a five-day training. Staffs of the brigades conducted operational planning in the territory of MIB "Iron Wolf" in Rukla and surveillance tasks tailored to the undertaking of the operation were completed by the contingents of the brigades across the entire territory of Lithuania. The total number of participants exceeded 400. The exercise was led by Commander of the Danish Division Maj. Gen. Peter Kühnel.
The purpose of the exercise is to improve the skills of Brigade Command and staff officers of Battalions related to operational planning and implementation in a composition of superior unit. Troops of MIB "Iron Wolf" along with staffs of the brigades had already participated in the exercise organised by the Danish Division.
In 2006 Motorised Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" was assigned to the Danish Division after Commanders-in-Chief of the Lithuanian and Danish Armed Forces have signed Memorandum of Affiliation.
Affiliation is the ability of pre-defined military units of one country to achieve technical, doctrinal, and procedural interoperability with military units of another country allowing to conduct joint operations. Affiliation also allows joint service of both parties in international staffs, joint training events and exercises in order to ensure interoperability of Lithuanian and Danish military units, i.e. their ability to act jointly in international operations.
