Tanks and other equipment of the new U.S. rotational force on the way to Lithuania

New U.S. rotational company formed by the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army will begin training in Lithuania as of next week.


On February 10 their military equipment consisting of ten M1A2 Abrams tanks, five M2A3 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, trucks an all-terrain vehicles, will be brought via Gaižiūnai train station.


All of the heavy infantry company and logistical personnel arrived on February 6-7.


As soon as the materiel is brought the rotational U.S. troops will begin the several months long training together with other allied troops deployed in Lithuania. In total, the U.S. rotation will include over 120 soldiers.

U.S. Army has maintained a rotating presence in the Baltic states and Eastern Europe since spring 2014 as part of U.S. Army-led Operation Atlantic Resolve for the eastern part of the Alliance.


The outgoing U.S. rotation formed by the 173rd Brigade was the first one deployed in Lithuania in April 2014 as a demonstration of strong U.S. and NATO commitment to collective defence of the Alliance and to the security of the region in light of the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

Photo/video opportunities will be provided for media representatives on February 10 at Gaižiūnai train station. The equipment is planned to be unloaded at 8.00 a.m.
