Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces visited the Ministry of National Defence

29 September Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces General Sverker Goranson on an official visit arrived to the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania and met the Minister Rasa Juknevičienė and Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius; they discussed bilateral and regional Nordic-Baltic co-operation and development opportunities.

During the visit Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces also visited the Energy Security Centre in Vilnius, Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Training Battalion and Naval Forces in Klaipeda.

Lithuania and Sweden developed close bilateral defence cooperation. Sweden was among the first countries to start cooperation with Lithuania, and has supported many of the Lithuanian Armed Forces material support and education projects. Sweden transferred for the Lithuanian Land Forces infantry, engineering armament and vehicles, for the Air Defence Battalion - anti-aircraft weapons, for the Military Medical Service has helped to establish health care canters, and transferred equipment, also started creating marine and coastal observation system. 

Sweden provides funding for Lithuanian soldiers and civilians training in Swedish schools, Swedish Armed Forces representative serves as deputy commandant in the Baltic Defence College.

Along with different military equipment Swedes send to Lithuania military specialists to train and instruct Lithuanian soldiers to operate the weapons and equipment, provide advice in the field of acquisitions and equipment maintenance.
