Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group One  to moor in Klaipėda after exercise

On May 8–11 Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group One (SNMCMG1) in its current composition of six warships will be on a harbor visit in Klaipėda.  

SNMCMG1 currently operates in the Baltic Sea under command of officer of the Royal Netherlands Navy Commander Dr. Jan Wijchers in composition of six ships: flagship  BNS Godetia (Belgium Navy),and minehunters BNS Crocus (Royal Belgium Navy), ENS Ugandi (Estonian Navy), FGS Datteln (German Navy), HNLMS Zierikzee (Royal Netherlands Navy) , HMS Pembroke (Royal Navy).

The scheduled SNMCMG1 port visit in Klaipėda will end on May 11, giving the crews opportunity to rest after the intense activities in the Baltic Sea in April and to carry out logistical resupply. On May 10 Commander  SNMCMG1 Cdr J.J. (Jan) Wijchers is planned to meet with Commander Lithuanian Navy Captain (Navy) Giedrius Premeneckas.

Over the past two weeks, April 19 – 29, SNMCMG1 was conducting historical ordnance disposal operation in the Baltic Sea, Baltic Spirit 2021, in the exclusive economic zone and territorial waters of Estonia.  The activity involved  21 ships from 11 countries, including Lithuania (LNS Kuršis MCM ship), over 130 units of unexploded ammunition were detected on the Baltic Sea bottom, 49 were destroyed during the operation. SNMCMG1 also carried out joint maneuvers with the Swedish and the Finnish Navies.
