May 31 – June 16 NRP Figueira da Foz (P361) of the Portuguese Navy is conducting a port call to Klaipėda.
Captain-Lieutenant Pereira Eusébio, commanding officer of NRP Figueira da Foz, was welcomed to the Lithuanian Navy Headquarters by Commander of the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Cdr Andrius Širvys.
While on the mission in Klaipėda, NRP Figueira da Foz (P361) is planned to conduct training with the Portuguese Marine Corps, or fusiliers, company deployed in Klaipėda and joint training with Lithuanian Navy ships.
Viana do Castelo-class offshore patrol vessel NRP Figueira da Foz was built in Portugal in 2004. The 84 meter-long ship is armed with a 30 mm Oto Melara Marlin WS cannon, Browning and MG-3 machine-guns. The ship propulsion is provided by two Wärtsilä diesel engines (3900 kW (x 5200 AG) each) and two electric engines (200 kW (x 270 AG) each). The ship can sail at a speed of 21 knots (39 km per hour).
The cooperation between the Lithuanian and the Portuguese Navies has intensified over the recent years. The annual temporary deployments of the Portuguese Corps of Fusiliers personnel to Klaipėda for joint training began in 2018, top leadership of both countries’ Navies exchange visits, force development experience is shared.
