Portuguese Fleet Commander observed Exercise Storm Strike 2024  

On May 2 Commander of the Lithuanian Navy Capt (N) Giedrius Premeneckas hosted Fleet Commander of the Portuguese Navy Vice Admiral Nuno Chaves Ferreira at the Lithuanian Navy Headquarters. Vice Admiral N. Ch. Ferreira observed artillery fire at sea and ship boarding  from rigid-hull boats training with Harbor and Littoral Waters Defence Service and Portuguese fusiliers  at  Exercise Storm Strike 2024 conducted by the Lithuanian Navy in the Baltic Sea. Vice Admiral  N. Ch. Ferreira visited the Harbor and Littoral Waters Defence Service exercise area where Service Commander Cdr Mindaugas Andrulis presented to the guest the newest unit in the Lithuanian Navy.   

Topics discussed at the meeting encompassed cooperation between the Lithuanian and Portuguese Navies and potential for future development. Vice Admiral N. Ch.  Ferreira thanked for accommodating the diver team of the Portuguese Navy aboard the Lithuanian mine hunter and sweeper vessel for the term of deployment with Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) in the second semester of 2024, praised successful cooperation between the Harbor and Littoral Waters Defence Service of the Lithuanian Navy and the Corps de Fusiliers of the Portuguese Navy.  

The Lithuanian and the Portuguese Navies are bound together by a close long-standing cooperation that continues developing.  Commanders of the Navies hold annual coordination meetings, different joint training courses are held, a Lithuanian officer underwent internship in a submarine of the Portuguese Navy in 2023.
