Peace and reintegration conference held at the Chaghcharan PRT base


On October 25 a Conference on Peace and Reintegration was held in the base of the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan PRT operating as part of NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). The conference elaborated on the program aimed at creating conditions for Afghan fighters to rejoin peaceful life and take up legal activities.

 

The conference was organised by the Provincial Joint Secretariat Team (PJST) in charge of such activity in the country.

 

The Afghan Peace and Reintegration Program (APRP) is coordinated by Afghan authorities. The program contributes to the improvement of security situation in the country and creating better conditions for completing development projects in the country.

 

Among the participants of the conference there were chairman of Ghor Provincial Council Farulul Hag Ehsan, political advisor for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Fazulul Hag Fazl, head of the Provincial Peace Council Kalamudin Maududi, head of PJST Abdul Ghafoor Taiman, Commander Chaghcharan PRT Col Nerijus Stankevičius, head of the civilian element of the PRT Eugenijus Vaicekauskas, other members of Ghor provincial institutions of authority and security forces.

 

In the meeting the results of completed activities, current situation and problems arising in Ghor were discussed. Support of the international community ad ISAF, which includes PRT, were also presented.

 

Lithuanian-led PRT in Ghor is a joint civilian and military mission, a part of NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), launched in the province in summer of 2005. The essential task of the mission is to support Afghan government in extending its authority in the province, ensuring security and creating conditions for provincial reconstruction.

 

Staff of the Lithuanian-led PRT in Chaghcharan includes Denmark's, Georgia's, Japan's, US, Poland's, Finland's, Bulgaria's and Ukraine's representatives alongside Lithuanian military and civilian personnel.
