On May 27-28 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Major General Jonas Vytautas Žukas will attend an annual Northern European Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark. Denmark's, Estonia's, Iceland's, Latvia's, Poland's, Lithuania's, Norway's, Finland's and Sweden's CHODs will gather at the invitation of Commander of the U.S. European Command and Chief of Defence of Denmark to discuss regional security and defence cooperation.
The topic of this year's meeting Regional Security in the new European Security Environment was chosen with regard to the continued cooperation of the CHODs in exchanging views, experience and knowledge of the dramatic events and crises in these latter years.
On the first day of the meeting bilateral talks with Commander of the U.S. (and NATO) European Command Philip M. Breedlove will take place, while on the second day three joint working sessions will be held: on ensuring regional stability, on terrorism as a threat to regional security, and on enhancement of regional cooperation.
The event is also expected to address issues of OR corps (soldiers, sergeants and NCOs) so it will be attended by NCOs from the participating nations, Sergeant Major Dainius Snarskis, Sergeant Major of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, on Lithuania's behalf.
