Netherlands deploy the Patriot air defence system in Lithuania

The decision to arrange a bilateral exercise was taken at the NATO Military Committee meeting this January attend by Chief of Defence Gen V. Rupšys and Chief of Defence of the Netherlands Gen O. Eichelsheim. Deployment of the Patriot air defence system for a bilateral exercise in Lithuania is the first step towards practical implementation of the Rotational Air Defence Model decided on at the NATO Summit in Vilnius last year in order to strengthen the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence.

The exercise will hone readiness to move forces and force integration, unified command and control, and execution of air defence operations. Key exercise training objective is identification of hostile aircraft which will be trained by imitating aircraft, helicopter, fighter jet and drone activity for the exercise participants to respond to.

No blank, smoke nor live ammunition will be used, only somewhat intensified military traffic on land and in the air may be observed round the clock.
