On April 15 Chief of Staff of the Territorial Defence Forces of Ukraine Brigadier General Anatolii Shevchenko, Colonel Yevhen Boiko and First Lieutenant Radana Kopcha from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv paid a visit to the National Defence Volunteer Force Headquarters.
“It is a critical time to maintain communication and cooperation with the newly appointed leadership of the Territorial Defence Forces of Ukraine. Units formed on the basis of voluntarism and territory don’t even have the luxury of fighting on their territory during war, rather, they are sent were they are needed the most and their invaluable experience is gained right on the battlefield. The experience burned in with the blood of Ukrainian volunteers is worth learning from and their insights and observations should be heard out,” said NDVF Commander Col D. Vaicikauskas said after the meeting with Brig Gen Anatolii Shevchenko.
Brig Gen A. Shevchenko underscored the importance of proper attention to psychological training for officers in the face of the ongoing war in Ukraine. According to General, Ukrainian troops have to survive on the battlefield, stay unbroken and still fulfil the battle routine. Military psychologists trained at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv who deploy to the battlefield to help the troops cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are highly useful and appreciated.
Brig Gen Anatolii Shevchenko was briefed on the organization structure of the sister organization of Ukraine’s Territorial Defence Forces, National Defence Volunteer Force. During the meeting, NDVF Commander Col Darius Vaicikauskas invited Brig Gen Anatolii Shevchenko to attend and speak on current topics at the European Territorial Defence Forces Conference in Lithuania on October 15-17.
