Lithuanian Land Force troops are training in Exercise Allied Spirit X at Hohenfels Training Area in Germany alongside our allies. The international exercise with roughly 5500 participants from Denmark, U.S., UK, Spain, Italy, Israel, Poland, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden, Finland, Turkey, and Germany, is organised by the U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) and will run until April 17.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces delegated staff officers of the Lithuanian Land Force and its subunits, and two platoons, one from the National Defence Volunteer Force and the other from Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion.
Exercise Allied Spirit X will train soldiers of the 21st Armour Brigade of the German Armed Forces, Denmark, U.S., and the UK to maintain readiness for NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group tasks.
At the same time, the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf, which is the leading unit for the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania, will be taking part in a readiness evaluation exercise Allied Spirit X in Nemenčinė and General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė. The evaluation team made up by the Lithuanian Armed Forces Defence Staff will assess planning, coordination and command of tasks while being efficient in integration of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group according to NATO CREVAL (Combat Readiness Evaluation System).
The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group has been deployed in Rukla, Lithuania, and integrated in the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf since February 2017. Allied troops are continuously training with Brigade's soldiers in their combat training programme.
The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group is led by Germany. Since the deployment, over 8 thousand soldiers from 9 NATO allies (Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Luxembourg, Croatia, and France) have already rotated to train and man the unit.
