October 25, military members of the 13th shift of Chaghcharan Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT-13) received NATO medals for participation in Non-Article 5 Medal ISAF operation in Afghanistan.
During the official ceremony which was held at the PRT formation square Commander PRT-13 Lt Col Nerijus Stankevičius rendered commendation certificates and other awards to distinguished troops.
Lithuanian contribution to the 13th rotation of Chaghcharan PRT is formed on the basis of King Mindaugas Mechanised Infantry Battalion.
In November the contingent will be replaced by a successive rotation formed on the basis of the 5th Territorial Unit of the Vytis Military District of the National Defence Volunteer Force.
Lithuanian-led PRT in Ghor is a joint civilian and military mission, a part of NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), launched in the province in summer of 2005. The essential task of the mission is to support Afghan government in extending its authority in the province, ensuring security and creating conditions for provincial reconstruction.
Staff of the Lithuanian-led PRT in Chaghcharan includes Denmark's, Georgia's, Japan's, US, Poland's, Finland's, Bulgaria's and Ukraine's representatives alongside Lithuanian military and civilian personnel.
