On September 25-29 soldiers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion will train alongside U.S., Dutch, Norwegian and German units in multinational Exercise Engineer Thunder 2017.
The exercise is aimed at training Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion capabilities with integrated Lithuanian Land Force and allied maneuver units. The training focuses on urban warfare operations which seem to be advantageous to soldiers because of the availability of different built structures. However, fortification of such structures requires engineers to have detailed plans and their preparedness - field of vision in urban terrain may be limited, while preparation of cover and fortifications has to be calculated with precision with regard to technical capacity of a concrete building.
Exercise Engineer Thunder 2017 is the largest field training exercise with maneuver units involved organised by the Lithuanian Armed Forces Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion. It is held annually since 2013 at General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area (Pabradė distr.).
