October 16, a company-sized unit will leave for Adaži Military Area (Latvia) - over a hundred of troops of the National Defence Volunteer Force Vytis Military District 5th Territorial Unit the will take part in the multinational exercise „Sabre Strike".
October 18-31, more than 1.6 thousand of military personnel from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and the United States will participate in the military event held in Adaži Military Area (Latvia).
The aim of the exercise is to improve military cooperation between the Baltic States and USA in order to provide relevant training for military personnel with the prospect of deployment to ISAF mission in Afghanistan and to other multinational operations.
National Defence Volunteer Force Vytis Military District 5th Territorial Unit representing Lithuania in the exercise in Latvia will serve as basis for formation of the 14 shift of the Provincial Reconstruction Team Lithuania will send to Ghor province, Afghanistan, next autumn.
Tasks of the exercise will include patrolling within settlements, live firing, raiding, and other varieties of military operations.
Baltic States will host „Sabre Strike" for the first time by proposal of the US military command. The event is planned to be held in all the three Baltic States on a rotational basis.
