Lithuanian Armed Forces dedicated online concert to NATO soldiers

On 23 December, following an initiative of the Chief of Defence of the Republic of Lithuania Lieutenant, General Valdemaras Rupšys, the service-women and -men of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group were provided a special Advent concert filmed exceptionally for them.

"Usually every year during the Advent Season, an allied military orchestra used to come to Lithuania, inviting the NATO as well as our soldiers and the surrounding community to join the celebration, concentrating on the path to Christmas. There was no possibility to do so this year, therefore I asked the Lithuanian Armed Forces Orchestra to carry out their duty even better than usually and to play for our sisters and brother in arms online, thus at least in part compensating for the worries caused by the pandemic", said Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupšys.

In December last year, during the visit of the Commander of the German Armed Forces General Eberhard Zorn, a Christmas charity concert was held at the Jonava Sports Arena, the German land forces orchestra from Ulm was performing.

This year, the Lithuanian Armed Forces Orchestra led by it's conductor, Major Egidijus Ališauskas, played various Advent and Christmas musical compositions in rehearsal hall of the Officer's Club in Vilnius. In order not to expose the musicians to additional risks, all participants of the event were tested with rapid COVID-19 antigen tests. The results of all tests were negative. Only then they were allowed to enter the hall and after a short rehearsal, play the compositions.

The task of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Orchestra is to participate in official events and to represent the Lithuanian State and Armed Forces, also to ensure the fulfilment of the requirements of protocol.
The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group is deployed in Rukla (Jonava District) and is integrated into the Lithuanian Armed Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf'. Allied soldiers together with their comrades of the brigade participate in peacetime in various military training events. In the event of a crisis or conflict, they would defend Lithuania together with the Lithuanian national and additional Allied Forces.

Lithuania is very much thankful for the efforts of Germany as the lead nation and the other allied contributors to strengthen the deterrence and the collective defence in the Baltic region. General Rupšys: "Together we are strong. We are stronger together!“
