Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupšys had a phone call with Polish counterpart

On February 11 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys had a phone call with Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces General Rajmund Andrzejczak.

Chiefs of Defence discussed land, air and maritime defence of the Baltic region, military exercises, bilateral cooperation, and other topical matters.

"The focus of our conversations was on the issues directly relating to Lithuania and Poland. We are neighbours and, therefore, inevitably have plenty in common. We are bound together by the Suwalki Corridor the defence of which is of mutual and utmost importance. We are fostering strong ties with Poland in defence area and we continue making them stronger with every joint project, exercise and plan. We share our NATO membership and mutual trust, we are strengthening the defensive powers of our countries and the Alliance in a coordinated manner and we form a firm and indivisible fist," Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys said after the conversation.

Defence cooperation of Lithuania and Poland encompasses a range of areas, such as protection of classified information, mutual natural disaster and emergency relief assistance, military aircraft movement in both countries' national airspace, military professional training and qualification improvement in both counties' military education institutions, and air and sea search and rescue.
