King's Strike 2015, cooperative exercise of Lithuania, U.S. and civil institutions, concluded

Cooperative Lithuanian-U.S. exercise which ran from 21 September in the town and district of Panevėžys wrapped up on September 25. The exercise was conducted by the military in cooperation with representatives of the city and district councils of Panevėžys, fire fighters' service, police, local hospital, emergency medical service, reporters and other public organisations. The main objective of Exercise King's Strike 2015 was not only to complete military actions but also to blueprint interaction and mutual support in case of a military conflict. Soldiers carried out defensive operations, destroyed enemy in urban areas, and completed stability operations together with the police of Panevėžys.


A military commandant was appointed to properly coordinate cooperation with civil institutions taking part in the exercise. In the meanwhile, all participating authorities were completing their own functions along with involvement in a military conflict. The exercise gave an opportunity for each participating institution to test its readiness, identify shortfalls and produce insights while completing assignments amidst a military conflict.

During the exercise military personnel from King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion of the Lithuanian Land Force and the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the U.S. Army learnt from each other and shared operational experience while completing exercise tasks together.


This was the first exercise in Panevėžys where defensive operations and engagements took place throughout the town and military personnel where working side by side with various authorities of Panevėžys.


The exercise received positive assessment and support from the community. Residents of the town and district of Panevėžys observed the exercise taking place next to their homes, were interested in its course, and asked Lithuanian and U.S. troops questions. Public attention during Exercise King's Strike 2015 let the training audience experience support from the community - local residents wanted not only to communicate but also to take pictures, where wishing strength and endurance to the participating soldiers.
