International Junior Staff Officer and Company Commander Courses started off at the Lithuanian Military Academy (Vilnius), January 4.
Junior Staff Officer Course is gathered from officers of various military qualifications coming from different divisions. The course provides a great opportunity for listeners and instructors from Lithuania and foreign countries to share military knowledge and practical skills.
Commandant of the Gen. Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy Brig. Gen. Edvardas Mažeikis formally opened the course and wished to the listeners intense studies and luck.
Three-month Junior Staff Officer Course will be conducted in English. 48 listeners of the course come from Lithuania (45) and Azerbaijan (1), Bosnia and Herzegovina (1), and Ukraine (1). After the course officers will be ready to take up positions of junior staff officers in staffs of battalion.
For two months Company Commander Course will be held in Lithuanian. The courses will be attended by 20 officers from divisions of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Graduates of the courses will be qualified for appointments as company (battery) commanders in divisions of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
Company Commander Course at the Gen. Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy was initiated in 2009. Opening the course Commandant of the Academy Brig. Gen. E. Mažeikis pointed out the importance of company as distinct military unit in modern warfare, characteristic features of company commander's job and the need for development of Lithuanian military terminology.
