May 5, crew of USS VICKSBURG guided missile cruiser on friendly visit in Klaipėda joined a support campaign: gathered litter in playgrounds of Giruliai impaired development children home and beaches of Melnragė.
35 crew members of the US cruiser, 15 Lithuanian naval officers, personnel of the US Embassy in Lithuania and children of Klaipėda Children Home „Rytas" took part in the campaign.
It is a tradition that crews of visiting US warships take part in goodwill social and environmental care projects.
The mentioned campaign was initiated by the Lithuanian Naval Force and crew of the USS VICKSBURG.
USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) guided missile cruiser visits Klaipėda on May 4-7. The ship's crew will also take part in a ceremony of tributing US troops killed in WWII in Macikai village and in other events. Members of the Lithuanian Naval Force and crew of the US warship are also expected to meet for a friendly sports match.
