The ITS Antonio Marceglia (F 597) frigate of the Italian Navy sailed into Klaipėda harbor during commemoration of Armed Force Day in Klaipėda on November 22 to congratulate the public and the military. A group of representative crewmembers and the Ship Commanding Officer Cdr Alessandro Rispoli attended the solemn parade in Klaipėda City and later Commanding Officer and his Deputy met with Capt (Navy) Giedrius Premeneckas.
The Carlo Bergamini-class frigate currently sails with the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 and deploys to the Baltic Sea to fortify NATO solidarity and commitment to collective defence. Commander of the Lithuanian Navy noted it in his celebration remarks saying that “port calls of Allied navy ships are becoming more frequent, and having seamen of the ITS Antonio Marceglia in our formation today is a testimony of strength of the Allied commitment and dedication to contribute to a stronger security in our region.”
ITS Antonio Marceglia (F 597) was commissioned in 2019, it is nearly 145 meters in length and sails at the speed of 27 knots. She is armed with different advanced systems and accommodates two helicopters. ITS Antonio Marceglia was named in honor of merits of Navy engineer Captain Antonio Marceglia during World War II. He took part in various missions and distinguished himself in Italy’s battles.
The ship will be moored at the Warship and Cruise Ship Terminal till November 26.
