On the 5th - 6th of June International friendly volleyball tournament was organized in the Lithuanian Air Force base. There were 5 teams of Air Force Base, 2 teams of United States of America cadets and one team of French Air Force detachment participating in the tournament.
First day of tournament all teams were separated in two subgroups where all the matches took place. Next day 3 Air Force Base and 1 U.S. cadets teams continued to compete for the 4 highest places of the tournament.
In the little finale for the third place competition was between Air Force Operations Support Group and U.S. cadets. Air Force troops were the winners.
In the final for the International friendly volleyball tournament winner title met Air Force aircraft maintenance squadron and Air Force Airfield Maintenance Squadron teams. After a hard-fought victory was celebrated by Aircraft Service Squadron.
The tournament was not only to determine which teams are the strongest, but also to have fun together and make stronger relationship between Lithuanian, French and American colleagues.
French Air Force detachment currently is in charge of NATO QRA mission over three Baltic States. French comrades have started their fourth mission on the 30th of April, 2013. Prior to this mission, French troops were guarding the Baltic air space for 3 times: since 01 04 2007 to 01 08 2007, since 04 01 2010 to 30 04 2010 and since 28 04 2011 to 02 09 2011. For four months period French Air Force has deployed 87 soldiers and 4 fighters Mirage F - 1CR, mainly from Mont de Marsan Aviation base in the south of France. For two months period commander of the detachment is lieutenant colonel Benjamin Vinot-Prefontaine.
At present, there are approximately 40 cadets from United states of America at various military units in Siauliai, Klaipeda and Vilnius to teach English to Lithuanian personnel, and to become accustomed to the Lithuanian army, and culture.
