International environmental protection seminar held in Nemenčinė

 


May 11-13, international environmental protection seminar „Drafting and implementation of environmental protection activity plan in military areas and military units" took place at the General Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Centre in Nemenčinė (Vilnius Distr.). Guests of the Lithuanian Armed Forces were representatives of the General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces and Environmental Protection and Radiation Protection Service, Infrastructure Objects and Procurement Centre of the Latvian Ministry of Defence and Environmental Protection Service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.

 

The seminar was organised to address aspects of environmental protection management in military areas and military units of Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine. The meeting was organised by the Environmental Protection Training Division of Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Centre.

 

In the event delegates of Belarus, Latvia, and Ukraine represented aspects of organisation of environmental protection in their military areas and military units.

 

Instructors of the Lithuanian Armed Forces briefed participants of the seminar on the environmental protection situation in the Lithuanian Armed Forces, delivered an announcement about command and control of the military areas of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, restrictions regarding environmental care on military units training in Gaižiūnai Military Area (Jonava Distr.). They also presented information on the activity of the Air Base of the Lithuanian Air Force, clearing polluted areas from explosives and support the Lithuanian Armed Forces rendered to civilian institutions to respond to spring flood, effect of noise and explosive materials on environment, and on other characteristic topics of environmental protection in military areas and unit of Lithuania.

 

Participants of the seminar also talked over further directions of international cooperation in environmental protection in the armed forces.
