Instructors from Birutė Battalion share experience with soldiers of Ukraine

The team of instructors of the Lithuanian Armed Forces continue training the National Guard of Ukraine alongside U.S. troops.

Soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine are training marksmanship, securing positions, fire support, and other firing tasks with automatic and marksman weapons, light machine guns, anti-tank grenade launchers, and heavy machine guns with guidance of Lithuanian instructors.

Lithuanian instructors carry out the training according to the Rifleman Training Programme applied in the Lithuanian Armed Forces, encompassing individual skills training and training in a unit (up to a platoon).

"Participation of Lithuanian military personnel in the training mission together with U.S. colleagues demonstrates more than just two countries' unified efforts to support Ukraine's armed forces. It also shows recognition of Lithuanian troops' professionalism and the compliance of their skills with the high standard the U.S. training mission is conducted according to," Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika said.

The team of Lithuanian military instructors currently participating in the U.S.-led training mission comprises five specialists assigned to the Lithuanian Grand Duchess Birutė Battalion. Their function in the mission is to teach Ukrainian troops shooting theory and train them in live fire exercises.

This project is part of Fearless Guardian, a training programme for the National Guard of Ukraine conducted by the U.S. military. According to the programme, several units of the National Gard of Ukraine will be trained for six months.

Lithuanian soldiers, deployed in Ukraine as of this July, rotate on a two-month basis. Currently the second Lithuanian rotation is taking part in the training mission in Ukraine.
