HMS Mersey of the British Royal Navy visited Klaipėda

On April 2–4 HMS Mersey patrol vessel of the United Kingdom paid a friendly port call to Klaipėda.

Over the two-day schedule the Ship Commanding Officer will meet with the Lithuanian Navy leadership, visit Vitė Cemetery pay tribute to British prisoners of war perished during the First World War in Klaipėda, the Ship‘s Company will visit the Naval Flotilla, Maritime Academy, and Lithuanian Navy personnel and sea cadets will tour the Royal Navy ship.

The HMS Mersey patrol vessel is manned by approx. 40 seamen, her patrolling span can reach up to 300 day per year and sailing speed up to 20 knots per hour. Names after the River Mersey which flows through Liverpool, the ship is armed with anti-aircraft and anti-watercraft machine guns.
