On 7-8 September, final Basic Police Patrol Training Course organised by Police Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (POMLT) took place in the Police Patrol Training Centre located in Chaghcharan, the province of Ghor. The number of attendees exceeded 50.
Training scenario, different situations and various tasks were based on real police patrol practice. Police students demonstrated their skills by performing foot patrol, operating in a checkpoint, checking the documents and vehicles of suspicious persons, and operating after falling into an ambush.
"During the course and training, we had a great opportunity to practice how to implement tasks given to police effectively and with tact. We have also acquired valuable knowledge and practice that will be very useful in our future tasks," said the best evaluated participant Noorullaq Gol-John.
During the solemn training graduation ceremony, the governor of the province of Ghor Abdullah Haiwad wished the attendees professional expertise, endurance in combating crimes, persistence and fortitude while defending their country and its people.
POMLT of U.S. and Lithuanian military personnel as well as Lithuanian Public Security Service officers was introduced in Ghor in autumn 2010. From the beginning of the mission POMLT has scheduled the Basic Police Patrol Training and Basic Officer Course Program. POMLT trains police officers and instructors, conducts evaluation of Ghor police units, provides direct assistance and consultations to local policemen in their daily duties.
Implementation of the new NATO International Security Assistance Force strategy in Afghanistan draws an increasing attention to the projects of training national security forces. Soldiers of Afghan National Army deployed in Ghor province are trained by a Lithuanian-led POMLT and Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT). A Lithuanian-led Air Mentor Team (AMT) deployed in Kandahar province trains troops of the Air Unit of the Afghan National Army Air Corps. Members of the Lithuanian Special Operations Squadron deployed in southern Afghanistan are also training Afghan Police Combat Company and jointly conduct tasks.
