Deputy Commander U.S. Army Europe on visit in Lithuania

 

On January 12 through 14 Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Europe Major General John Gronski and his delegation conducted a visit in Lithuania.

 

On January 12 the guest met with Chief of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Defence Staff Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras at the Defence Staff HQ in Vilnius.

 

The Generals discussed current security situation in the Baltic Region, exchanged information on military training plans for the year and prospects of U.S. military personnel participation in exercises in the Baltic states.

 

After the visit to the Defence Staff, Major General J. Gronski met with Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Brigadier General Valdemaras Rupšys at the Lithuanian Land Force Staff Headquarters. "We have been in cooperation with the Pennsylvania National Guard for nearly 25 years. We are very happy that we have such consistent partners determined to cooperate seriously and train purposefully. Our Army personnel will continue training heavily with and learning from U.S. soldiers," Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Brig Gen Valdemaras Rupšys said.

 

The meeting addressed one of the major exercises in 2018, Saber Strike 2018, and other phases of combat training. The Generals also discussed prospects of further cooperation with the United States of America.

 

On January 13-14 the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Europe and his delegation took part in commemorative January 13 events and the On the Road of Life and Death Tribute Run together with Lithuanian and U.S. soldiers on Sunday.
