On June 23-30 Commander of the National Guard of Georgia Brigadier General Levan Gamkrelidze and Chief of Staff-Deputy Commander Colonel Telman Meskhidze are conducting a visit in Lithuania. On June they were joined by Lieutenant Colonel Shalva Chubinidze, the Head of the Mobilisation and Reserve (J1) Section of the Defence Staff of Georgia. This is a return visit by the Georgian delegation to the one carried out by a delegation of the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Force (NDVF) to meet with the leadership of the National Guard of Georgia in Tbilisi.
On June 25 the guest delegation met with Major General Almantas Leika, the Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force, and Colonel Romualdas Moldaris, the Commander of the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Force. The guests were briefed on the organisation, function and objectives of the Lithuanian NDVF. Head of the Conscription and Manning Section Major Žygimantas Adamonis introduced the activity of his subunit, methods of recruitment used to man the Lithuanian Armed Forces, related perspectives and opportunities. The guests were particularly interest in Lithuania's experience in that area and actively engaged in the discussion.
Tomorrow the Georgian delegation will be visiting the Jonušas Radvila Training Regiment to familiarise with its structure, functions, and take a closer look at the Basic Military Volunteer Training Course currently underway. Later Colonel Shalva Chubinidze will visit the territorial Conscription and Manning Section to familiarise with the work done there.
On June 27 the guests will make a trip to the 23rd Territorial Unit of the NDVF Žemaičių Military District in Klaipėda to get acquainted with its activity and objectives, later- to the Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion. The guests have also been invited to observe traditional games of the Lithuanian volunteers in the district of Mažeikiai on Sunday.
This has been the first visit in Lithuania by the Commander of the National Guard of Georgia. It aims at establishing direct contacts and launching cooperation between Lithuanian and Georgian volunteer forces.
