Commander ISAF Regional Command West visited camp of Provincial Reconstruction Team

25 August, Brigadier General Carmine Masiello; Commander of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Regional Command West visited camp of Lithuanian-led Ghor Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).

Representatives of ISAF Regional Command West met with PRT command, Governor of Ghor Province Dr. Aqahi Abdullah Heiwad, as well as PRT soldiers and civilians.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues related to transfer of responsibility for the security of the country to Afghanistan National Security Forces. The meeting also focused on the activities of the PRT, the security situation in Ghor Province, Afghanistan National Security Forces, and  PRT cooperation.

It was the last visit of Brigadier General C. Masiello in Ghor Province. He bid farewell to the troops serving in Ghor province, and civilians.

Currently PRT-13 which is formed on the basis of the King Mindaugas Mechanized Infantry Battalion is deployed in Afghanistan Ghor Province. This is the second time when Mindaugas Battalion conducts a half year mission in Afghanistan.


Lithuanian-led Ghor Provincial Reconstruction Team is a joint civilian-military mission, part of NATO's International Security Assistance Force, which started functioning in Ghor Province in summer 2005. The PRT's task is to support the central government in expanding its authority throughout the province, providing security and stability and establishing  proper conditions for the reconstruction of the province.The PRT composition also includes military and civilian personnel from Denmark, Georgia, Japan, the USA, Poland, Finland, Bulgaria and Ukraine
