From October 18 to 21 Commander-in-Chief of the Lithuanian Navy RAdm (lh) Kęstutis Macijauskas was taking part in the 20th International Seapower Symposium hosted by U.S. Naval War College in Newport.
The key theme of the event was Prosperity and Security through Maritime Partnerships. The Symposium brought together naval and coast guard leadership from 118 countries.
International Seapower Symposiums have been organised since 1969 and are hosted by the U.S. Naval War College biennially.
From the historical perspective, discussions set forward in these symposiums gave rise to a number of cases of successful cooperation across a variety of sectors: counter-piracy actions, humanitarian and emergency assistance, search and rescue, including for submarines, planning and implementation of coalition military operations and pursuance of joint action in law enforcement through prevention of arms, drug and people trafficking as well as fishery and pollutions breaches.
