Command post exercise “Red Knight” organized by Danish division is conducted in Rukla

On 25-26 August multinational command post exercise "Red Knight" is conducted in Motorized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" in Rukla (Jonava district).

 

Brigade "Iron Wolf" staff and units in the exercise participate as unit assigned to Danish division. Representatives of Danish division, Danish division soldiers' group including Commander of Danish division Major General Agnus Rokas is in command of the exercise.

 

During the exercise Brigade "Iron Wolf" command and staff officers improve their skills while planning multinational defensive operations, respond to operation situations and peculiarities of defensive operations.

 

„This exercise is very important part of the brigade combat training. During the exercise we improve planning of multinational defensive operations abroad, brigade command and units also stress everyday training in order to conduct defensive operations in the territory of Lithuania, both with NATO allies and independently", said Motorized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" Commander Colonel Vilmantas Tamošaitis.

 

Brigade "Iron Wolf" was assigned to the Danish Division in 2006. The aim of this assignment is to ensure that jointly participating in exercises and training military units were capable to jointly operate in multinational operations. After the brigade has been assigned to Danish division, Lithuanian soldiers have opportunity to participate in larger exercises; division, corps level.

 

Cooperation of the Brigade "Iron Wolf" and Danish division is being extremely developed in the project LITBRIG (Lithuanian-Danish Brigade), the aim of the project is by the end of 2014 to train the Brigade "Iron Wolf" to participate in joint NATO operations in the composition of Danish division.

 

LITBRIG is already third Lithuanian-Danish joint project in the field of defence. Successfully finished projects are LITART (Lithuanian artillery) and LITBAT (Lithuanian battalion).

While implementing LITART project, Danish military forces trained General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery battalion personnel, transferred armament, equipment and ammunition.

 

Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanized Infantry battalion of Motorized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" trained according LITBAT project is compatible to NATO standards. Lithuanian military contingent of joint Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian battalion BLTBAT formed on the basis of Algirdas battalion will participate in six months NRF-14 rotation.

Currently Brigade "Iron Wolf" consists of HQ and six battalions: two mechanized infantry battalions (Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas and King Mindaugas battalions), and two motorized infantry battalions (Great Dutches Birutė and Lithuanian Grand Duke Kęstutis battalions), General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery and Lithuanian Grand Duke Vaidotas Forward Support Logistics Battalion. Motorized Infantry Brigade „Iron Wolf" HQ and HQ support, reconnaissance units deployed in Rukla, Jonava district, battalions deployed in Alytus, Rukla, Panevėžys and Tauragė.
