Chiefs of Defence of Lithuania and Poland met in Rukla

On February 26 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupšys met with Chief of the General Staff of Poland General Rajmund Andrzejczak who is on a visit in Lithuania.


Chiefs of Defence discussed affiliation of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf of Lithuania and the 15th Infantry Brigade of Poland to the HQ Multinational Division North East, they were also briefed on the activities, weaponry and equipment of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group.


Ministers of National Defence of Lithuania and Poland met in Vilnius and took a decision a month ago to affiliate the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf and the 15th Infantry Brigade to the HQ Multinational Division North East in Elblag, Poland.


Lt Gen V. Rupšys and Gen R. T. Andrzejczak signed a document on the same occasion embedding the intent of both countries' militaries to train together. The document also defines the areas that are the basis of affiliation of the Lithuanian and the Polish Brigades to the HQ Multinational Division North East: training and exercises, strategic communication, and situational awareness.


Both Brigades will remain subordinate to national authorities but they will help create the conditions for training the HQ Multinational Division North East and contribute to strengthening to strengthening the NATO structure.


Lithuanian Chief of Defence is planned to reciprocate the visit to the 15th Infantry Division of the Polish Armed Forces in early March.
