Chief of the German Army Lt Gen Alfons Mais visited Lithuania

Continuing the Lithuanian-German bilateral cooperation, Chief of the German Army Lt Gen Alfons Mais conducted a visit to Lithuania on November 20-21. Over the two day visit the guest met with the Lithuanian Armed Forces top command and a tour in Rukla to meet with the German military personnel serving in Lithuania.

The visit of the Inspector of the German Army began with meetings with the Lithuanian Armed Forces leadership, Commander of the Land Force Brigadier General Artūras Radvilas. They discussed regional security, opportunities for cooperation, existing and planned joint training and exercises. In his turn Brig Gen Artūras Radvilas briefed the guest on the activity and development plans of the Lithuanian Land Force.

Chief of the German Army also paid a visit to Rokantiškės in Vilnius region to see the nearly fully built military campus. He was familiarized with its infrastructure, administrative, technical and special purpose buildings – barracks, mess-hall, repair, medical facilities, etc.

Lieutenant General Alfons Mais visited German military personnel of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group and the Forward Command Element enhanced Vigilance Activity Brigade Lithuania at Rukla, Jonava region. He took interest in the service and living conditions the troops had, familirised with their activities and viewed their equipment.

Germany’s involvement in strengthening NATO and Lithuania’s defence is critical: German demonstrate their commitment not just by leading the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group but also with investments in Lithuania’s military infrastructure.
