Chief of Defence to observe NATO exercise Dragon-24 in Poland

On March 5 Chief of Defence General Valdemaras Rupšys will be on a visit in Poland to observe military exercise, Dragon-24, a constituent part of Exercise  Steadfast Defender-24, the largest NATO exercise in Europe since the Cold War to be held this spring.  

Exercise Dragon-24 will certify Allied forces for deterrence and defence tasks, prepare for a potential aggression against NATO Allies and executive combat actions across land, air and maritime domains. The centerpiece operation of Dragon-24 is deployment of the  Very High Readiness Joint Task Force in assistance to an Ally in the event of aggression which will also highlight the nuances and potential challenges of military mobility across national borders. When the exercise ends, the German enhanced Vigilance Brigade battalion will relocate for continued training in Lithuania as of March 7.    

Lithuania is represented by the JLTV Reconnaissance Platoon, Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf, in the ongoing exercise alongside the 20 thousand participants with 350 units of military equipment from 10 NATO Allies. The exercise also cover the cyberspace operations domain. 

The exercise will be observed by President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda. Presence of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg,  Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Christoph G. Cavoli,  Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum  General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation General Philippe Lavigne, Political figures and military representatives of Poland, NATO Ambassadors and Military Representatives to NATO and EU institutions is expected.  

Exercise Steadfast Defender-24 will train the total of 90 thousand military personnel from the whole NATO, including the soon-to be 32nd member Sweden. Dragon-24 and the upcoming exercise in Lithuania is part of Steadfast Defender-24.
