June 15, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus will participate in the conference „SHAPEX 2009" held in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons (Belgium).
The conference will bring together top-ranking military and civilian officials from NATO member states, and commanders of the Alliance's commands. The main address of the conference will be read by former President of Sweden Martti Ahtisaari.
This year the annual conference will be held to explore the subject „Alliance in the changing security environment ".
Official meeting in the conference will analyse geopolitical, strategic and military tendencies directly influencing NATO-led operations. Situations in the northern region - from the Baltic to the Arctic Sea - and in the south region - around the Caspian and the Black Seas - will be addressed.
Chief of Defence is expected to return to Lithuania on June 16.
