Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General A. Pocius took part in an MC meeting

On January 22-23 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius  attended a meeting of NATO's Military Committee (MC) in Brussels (Belgium).

At the meeting the Chief of Defence discussed ongoing military operations in the Balkans and Afghanistan, points of NATO transformation, NATO activities in post-ISAF Afghanistan, the Connected Forces Initiative (CFI), NATO exercises in the Baltic Region, and other issues.

At the meeting situation on the ground in Syria and Libya will be presented.

Lithuanian Chief of Defence Lt Gen A. Pocius also attended the session of the NATO-Russia Council (NRC).

The Military Committee (MC) is the senior NATO's military authority that reports to the North Atlantic Council, Defence Planning Committee and Nuclear Planning Group. The MC makes strategic decisions and shapes military advice to the North Atlantic Council. Daily work at the Military Committee is done in sessions by Military Representatives delegated by NATO member states.

The Military Committee normally meets three times a year. Two of the meetings take place in Brussels and one - in another NATO member state on a rotational basis.
