On January 30 Chief of Defence of Denmark General Peter Bartram met with the Danish Air Contingent deployed to conduct NATO's Air policing mission in the Baltic States. During the visit at the Šiauliai Air Base Gen Bartram also met with Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Major General Edvardas Mažeikis and Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Air Base Lieutenant Colonel Vidmantas Raklevičius.
The visit of the Danish Chief of Defence began with a briefing from Commander of the Danish Air Contingent Major Kresten Andersen on the Baltic Air Policing mission and its most current issues. Later General Bartram was escorted by Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Maj Gen E. Mažeikis and other guests to tour the new airsheds and Denmark's F-16 fighter-jets in the territory of the Air Base.
While meeting with the Danish Air Contingent General Bartram acknowledged his respect to the military of his country in charge of the key mission to NATO's Smart Defence concept tailored to ensure security of the Baltic skies. When the formal part of the meeting was finished, Chief of Defence of Denmark congratulated one of the Contingent's members on his birthday and sang a birthday song to him along with the rest of the Contingent.
Upon leaving Denmark's Chief of Defence thanked Lithuanian representatives for the multiple assistance and support rendered to the completion of the Baltic Air Policing mission.
