On October 18 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius is attending Baltic Chiefs of Defence meeting in Tartu, Estonia. Lithuanian Chief of Defence and his Baltic counterparts, Chief of Defence of Latvia Major General Raimonds Graube and Estonian Chief of Defence Brigadier General Riho Terras are expected to focus on the developments of defence cooperation of the Baltic States.
The meeting top-ranking Baltic military officers plan to discuss such issues as development of defence capabilities, contribution to NATO and European Union-led operations and standbys, personnel training. They are also to discuss joint training events held at military training areas of the Baltic States, including the Host Nation Support (HNS) exercise BALTIC HOST 2013 scheduled to begin in early November, joint contribution of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to the standby in NATO's Response Force in 2016. The meetings Chiefs of Defence will also address issues related to the ongoing trilateral projects - Baltic Naval Squadron (BALTRON), Baltic Air Surveillance Network (BALTNET), Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL).
The Baltic Chiefs of Defence take place biannually. Lt Gen A.Pocius is expected to return to Lithuania on October 18.
