Chief of Defence General Valdemaras Rupšys to attend Baltic Chiefs of Defence meeting in Riga

On October 25-26 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Gen Valdemaras Rupšys will take part in the Baltic Chiefs of Defence meeting in Riga, Latvia. He and General Martin Herem of Estonia and Lieutenant General Leonids Kalninš of Latvia will discuss the security situation in the region, NATO regional plans including Allied integration and unit-level interoperability, and joint military Baltic projects: the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL), Baltic Air Surveillance Network (BALTNET) and the Baltic Naval Squadron (BALTRON).

The meeting will particularly focus on aid defence capability development and expansion of military infrastructure, training fields and training areas. Chiefs of Defence will discuss their countries’ capability, mechanism for experience exchange and other assistance to each other possible concerning the mentioned issues, they area also planned to tour the Adazi Training Area.

The Baltic CHODs meet once a year in one of the countries on a rotational basis. The most recent meeting was hosted by Latvia.
