On the 10th of April Major Martin Winkler, pilot with the German Air Detachment on the NATO's QRA mission, donated a 20 gram weight coin of Germany's investment gold (99,99 % purity) and a sum of money as charity. The gift was handed over to the director of the Šiauliai Caritas Organization priest Egidijus Venckus.
Šiauliai Caritas Organization takes care of homeless people while also completing various charity projects.
This was not the first Maj. M. Winkler's initiative, in 2011 on the 21st of March he donated a similar gold coin to orphanage "Visos Lietuvos vaikai".
German Air Force's Detachment guards the Baltic airspace with F4 Phantom fighter jets. This is the fifth German mission; in the end of April they will be replaced by a Polish Air Force's detachment.
