Certification field training exercise Iron Wolf 2020 II has begun

Heightened alert level in the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf, Lithuanian Land Force, began pre-planned international exercise Iron Wolf 2020 II on November 3, to run until November 17.


Exercise Iron Wolf 2020 II will certify the preparedness of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion Battle Group (deployed in Rukla, Jonava district) and King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion (deployed in Panevėžys) to act together and be interoperable with the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf command and other NATO allies and partners.


In the morning of November 3 transportation of Lithuanian and allies' military equipment to the exercise site in Švenčionys district began (route: rounds of Kalvarija, Marijampolė, Kaunas, Elektrėnai, Vievis, Molėtai, Pabradė, Švenčionėliai and Jonava, Ukmergė, Utena, Ignalina, and Panevėžys). The movement will reach the peak on November 8-9 from the border of Poland to Kalvarija-Marijampolė-Kaunas-Vievis-Maišiagala-Pabradė, Rukla-Ukmergė-Utena-Švenčionėliai and Rukla-Elektrėnai-Vievis-Maišiagala-Molėtai-Labanoras-Švenčionėliai. The military equipment will be returned to homebases on November 18-22. All the columns will be escorted by the Lithuanian Armed Forces Military Police. Other drivers are invited to stay tolerant.


In the course of the exercise the equipment will move in the training are and around, blank rounds and pyrotechnics will be used. Approximately a thousand articles of military equipment - tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, artillery systems, supply and command post vehicles - and over three thousand military personnel from Lithuania and nine other NATO allies will take part in the training.


Roughly 12 thousand soldiers have already rotated through the German-led NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania since its deployment in February 2017. The field training exercise Iron Wolf 2020 II is not only a certification exercise for the capability of the eFP and its ability to cooperate with Lithuanian allies but also the conclusion of the 8th eFP rotation. The rotation will begin prating for redeployment after the exercise and the next rotation will come in.
