March 22-23, Chiefs of Staff of the three Baltic States met in Latvia, the key focus of the meeting was placed on the currently developed trilateral cooperation projects of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. At the meeting proposals regarding further development and enhancement of those projects and new initiatives of Baltic cooperation were rendered to the meeting Chiefs of Staff.
At the meeting organized by the Chief of Staff of Latvia Brig Gen Andis Dilāns, was also attended by delegations of Lithuania, Estonia and trilateral cooperation project - the Baltic Defence College. Delegations of the staffs of the armed forces of these countries were led by Col Vilmantas Tamošaitis and Chief of Staff of the Estonian Armed Forces Col Peeter Hoppe. Col Ingemar Gustafsson, Deputy Commandant of the Baltic Defence College, represented the Baltic senior officers' education institution.
In the two-day meeting Chiefs of Staff addressed matters related to the Baltic Air Policing mission, the Baltic Air Surveillance Network (BALTNET), the Baltic Naval Squadron (BALTRON), the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL), and others.
Chiefs of Staff of the Baltic countries are held as a run-up to the approaching meeting of the Baltic Military Committee involving commandeer of the Baltic armed forces. In the meeting chiefs of staff prepare recommendations to the Chiefs of Defence of the Baltic countries regarding the development of further trilateral.
Armed Forces of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia cooperate actively and steadily in fulfilling trilateral military projects of various levels which incapacitate the Baltic countries to pool resources, save on human and material resources, conduct training of forces, share information and experience as well as develop other capabilities.
