Aspects of military service discussed with USAFE Command Chief Master Sergeant

On January 11 Command Chief Master Sergeant, United States Air Forces in Europe and U.S. Air Forces Africa CMSgt Brion P. Blais and Chief Master Sergeant of the Lithuanian Air Force Sgt Maj Alvydas Tamošiūnas had a telephone conversation on cooperation and personnel service with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Initiator of the call CMSgt Brion P. Blais expressed a hope to have at least once-in a quarter telephone or video teleconference calls in the format of the NATO and partner Air Force Chief Master Sergeants in order to keep everyone on the same page and maintain a remote means for wider sharing of the most important AF enlisted personnel issues in the face of the OVID-19 pandemic.

Command Chief Master Sergeant, United States Air Forces in Europe and U.S. Air Forces Africa CMSgt Brion P. Blais shared lessons learned in minimizing the threat of COVID-19 spread among personnel in military unit and divisions, such as working remotely, service in shifts, required amounts and availability of basic hygiene articles and observation of corresponding hygiene requirements. The officers also evaluated differences and similarities of the pandemic precautions used in their forces.

They also discussed training of the Lithuanian Air Force fire and rescue section at the Ramstein Air Base, compared other training programmes and opportunities at U.S. Air Force facilities in Europe and provided on the ground by deployable training teams of such facilities. They closed the conversation with a discussion on the possibility to hold a NATO and partner countries' Air Force Chief Master Sergeants conference in Lithuania in the end of 2021.

USAFE Command Chief Master Sergeant CMSgt Brion P. Blais visited Lithuania in the autumn of 2019 with the USAFE Commander, Gen Jeffrey Lee Harrigian. He then talked to Lithuanians Air Force colleagues, toured the Lithuanian Air Force Base infrastructure, and observed a NATO Air Police Mission in the Baltic states hand over-take over ceremony.

In the end of the call Sgt Maj Alvydas Tamošiūnas thanked CMSgt Brion P. Blais for the consistent efforts of the U.S. Air Force to strengthen the security of Lithuania's and regional airspace and to keep a persistent connection.
