Artillery guns will thunder on the seacoast for the first time

On April 29-30 105 mm Howitzer M-50 live-fire exercise will be held for the first time. The training audience will be using two Howitzer guns to knock down airborne targets from positions at the Kairiai Training Range over the area of the naval range. The exercise aimed at preparing for territorial defence of state will train military personnel to fend of threats from the sea.

Howitzer shells will be fired over the Curonian Lagoon and the Curonian Spit to fall into the sea at a distance of approx. 3km from the coast. The shells will not cause any damage neither to the environment nor people as they will be airborne at an altitude of approx. 2km, will make no sound and will not emit any hazardous materials.

The exercise arranges by the Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion and also attended by personnel from the General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion, is expected to be observed by Commander of the Lithuanian Land Forces Major General Almantas Leika, Vice Minister of National Defence Antanas Valys, representatives of local municipal institutions, and commanders of military units.
