Approx. 1.200 soldiers from Denmark will take part in the exercise in Lithuania

From June 12 to 21 multinational exercise Iron Wolf 2016 is running at Gaižiūnai Training Area (Jonava district), and territories of Kėdainiai, Kaunas and Jonava districts. It trains and will eventually certify a battalion-sized task force formed by the 2nd Brigade of the Danish Division, and including a Lithuanian company, for standby for the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) in 2017. Apart from 1.200 soldiers from Denmark, the exercise will also involve roughly 1.5000 troops from Germany, France, Lithuania, Luxembourg, and the United States.

On June 3-9 the Danish soldiers moved roughly 500 combat and service vehicles to Gaižiūnai Training Area, including Leopard 2 A5 tanks, CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles, Piranha and M113 armoured personnel carriers, EAGLE IV all-terrain vehicles, different military trucks, etc.

The heavy tracked materiel was transported from Denmark to Šeštokai by railway. The tanks were then moved to the training area by trucks. The remaining part of the equipment was transferred to another relay and taken to the exercise area by railway.

Wheeled military materiel was brought from Denmark by sea: it was unloaded in Klaipėda Seaport and reached the training area by roads.

Danish soldiers arrive in Lithuania on June 9-10 via Kaunas Airport. Static displays of Danish military equipment, material and weaponry will be available for the public to visit in the parking lot near Kaunas Castle and in Kaišiadorys on Birutės street on June 11 at 12-3.00 p.m.

The company from the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion training for standby in composition of the Danish task force will train to plan and execute a wide spectrum of operations and will conduct offensive and defensive operations at Iron Wolf 2016. The exercise also hones interoperability among the participating nations.
