December 14, at around 21.00 p.m. Lithuanian time (around 23.30 p.m. local time) an attempt to deliver fire at the Lithuanian-led PRT base on the north side was stopped. Upon spotting feasible intentions of hostile persons Lithuanian military personnel opened warning machine-gun and rifle fire. None of the personnel was hurt in the incident. Infrastructure of the base was not damaged. According to report of local government, there were no civilian victims.
In the incident one rocket-propelled anti-tank grenade was fired at the direction of the base and detonated at around 300-metre distance. Military personnel on a night patrol of security presence in the area spotted suspicious persons in the location from which the fire was delivered opened automatic rifle and heavy machine-gun fire making them withdraw immediately.
Afghan National Security Forces sent their representatives to the incident location straightaway upon the notification and PRT representatives illuminated the area with mortar fire. It has not yet been determined who delivered fire at the PRT base.
Early in the morning EOD team of the PRT dispatched to the location from which the fire could have been delivered found two rocket-propelled anti-tank grenades. One of them was found undetonated, the another was possibly dropped as insurgents retracted after the fire response. EOD team neutralised grenades on site.
At present situation is stable, peacekeepers carry on with their duties.
